A tale of love, lust and passionate desire, authentically set in late 1940's class-conscious Britain. Innocent, naive teenager, June Armstrong is determined to rise above her working class roots and succeed as a top dress designer. Her sexuality is dramatically awakened by war hero, and socially advantaged, Major Arthur Rogers (retired), twenty years her senior. The relationship, sealed by a gift of a locket containing a diamond for an engagement ring, is to be kept secret until June is eighteen. Various events, involving his family, job prospects and unforeseen factors to do with affairs of the heart, prove to be a challenge to their relationship.
Arthur's 'ladies man' brother, Charles, is also in love with June but ruins his chances when he sexually assaults her. June becomes the catalyst for his remarkable redemption. She finds herself falling in love with the "new Charlie" when Arthur is abroad on business. Out of love for his brother and June, Charles withdraws from the blossoming relationship and returns to the Royal Navy.
But first Charles helps June gain employment as a trainee designer. Her boss and mentor - dynamic, sexy entrepreneur, Robert Watson - realises June's potential and sweeps her along on a tidal wave of ambition. He has plans for a totally new business and she is to be his lynch pin. June is mesmerised by both Watson's charisma and his renowned erotic sexuality (which she inadvertently witnesses in the stock room).
Robert Watson's ability to draw out June's creative genius eventually creates a bond, dangerous but thrilling, which he ruthlessly exploits - to the full!

Review
Gladys Hobson is a very skilful writer. Without ever resorting to crudity or four-letter words, the author makes the nature of Alice's problems brutally plain. And she describes in detail how Alice goes about solving them. --Michael Allen-Grumpy Old Bookman
WOW, I don't say that often, Ms. Hobson's writing is quite good indeed. There's such a wistful, genuine quality to her style that it's hard bot to be drawn in right away. Unpretentious--so nice to see that in writing once in a great while. Very unique, and veery charming. --Andrew L O'Hara-Jimston Journal

Romance
This book includes some great story lines. It really involves you in one man s struggle with society versus his urges. The book outlines the lives of Paul and Nick: they are priests that find themselves in love. There is the struggle with their faith, their parishioners, and themselves that keeps you intrigued all the way through. The conflict with them is their commitment to their vocation versus the commitment to one another. The title encompassed a young girl who is involved with the priest and his life and struggle. She is the one factor that you just can t seem to figure into the equation and what she is really up to. The story unfolds in a great way with small doses that leads up to a great ending; you find yourself wanting to know more about the characters and what is going to happen to them in the end. This is certainly a good inner look into the vocation of a priest. It has lot of knowledgeable information that makes it seem well researched for sure. I enjoyed all the references to the church officers and traditions and the inner workings of a church and how up to date and real to life it seemed it could be. There were many interesting subplots and storylines that kept you interested and intertwined all the characters in a way that all came out in the end --Angelia
