Author's Website - C Q SCAFIDI                            Suspense Thriller

New Orleans, June 1997. The city's dying of heat and dying on its feet as the port business shrinks and the powers that be carve up a vanishing pie. Steve Gorman, an executive for the APEX courier corporation, sees his colleague Andrew Sinclair disappear, carrying a high-value package containing a stone with miraculous powers...

Steve gets the blame, quits APEX and loses his place on the city's Trade Council. Suddenly he's a "non-person", but with the aid of glamorous Creole journalist Monique Chauvin and fey historian Louis Duplantier, he unearths an astonishing conspiracy involving time travel, the Templars, Freemasonry and Voodoo. If this "Brotherhood" can forecast events like Hurricane Katrina, millions of dollars could be saved-for the elect few, of course.

C Q Scafidi's murder story is in fact a stunning exposé of globalism, greed and ritualized gangsterism. His background in journalism and business at the World Trade Center give him a unique insight into the workings of mankind... and how human nature can be corrupted overnight by the allure of power. Read Time Couriers and you'll see world events in an entirely different light.

THE DARKNESS by Author Bill Kirton

    $11.99 - 314 Pages

The Darkness is the third in my police procedural series featuring DCI Jack Carston and his team. It’s set in the fictional town of Cairnburgh, near Aberdeen in North East Scotland. The first two were Material Evidence and Rough Justice. Reviews of Material Evidence noted its ‘intense plotting, strong characters … fine Rendellian touches and a structure and depth that is rare in a first book’ It was also called ‘a cracking page-turner’ and readers were told that ‘The denouement, when it comes, will shake you.’ Rough Justice was described as ‘a thoughtful and thought-provoking book (which) involves some very human, intelligent Scottish coppers and ought to bring Bill Kirton the attention he deserves.’

The Darkness, as its title suggests, has fairly bleak themes. Tommy Davidson is found with his throat cut. His brother Andrew, a successful GP in Cairnburgh, is driven to thoughts of revenge because he feels certain that the death is connected with a previous incident in which Tommy’s wife and two wee daughters were killed by a drunk driver. The driver escaped with a very light sentence and Andrew’s brooding sets him thinking about several other examples of killers who have evaded punishment thanks largely to the efforts of a skilled local lawyer. He speculates on what he can do, then begins to put his imaginings into practice. Some local villains begin to disappear and one dies a particularly painful death.

Simultaneously, Rhona Kirk, the victim of a rape, leaves home and sets up as an escort in Dundee. The discovery of the bodies of her rapist and someone who gave her a lift south makes DCI Jack Carston’s job even more difficult.

As he works on both cases, his mostly unspoken sympathies are with whoever is responsible for the disappearances of the villains. Secretly, he too resents the fact that they were allowed to go free and yet he must suppress his instincts and work to find them and whoever is responsible for their death and/or disappearance.

Davidson continues his daily work as a GP, aware himself of the contrast between his role as a healer and the baser thoughts he has about avenging his brother. But his regular contact with so many innocent sufferers who accept their degeneration with stoicism and dignity increases his hatred of those who think nothing of killing and maiming others. He falls more deeply into his despair and his thoughts of vigilantism.

This is a tale of inner and outer darkness, not just that of Davidson but that of Carston, too. For the first time, he begins openly to examine his own impulses and attitudes to wrongdoers and senses a capacity for cruelty and a potential disregard for the law and its rigid structures. And yet he must force those feelings back down within himself and hurry to solve the case to prevent a truly chilling outcome.
